Bonding Belt

Koncept 3

Introduction

While the city of Lübeck functions as a regional centre for citizens and tourists with a high density of services, the surrounding towns of Bad Schwartau, Ratekau and Pansdorf only cover basic daily needs. A lack of mobility networks and social infrastructure create barriers that hinder dialogue and growth in the region. However, the Fehmarnbelt Fixed Link infrastructure project offers future development opportunities for the region. The aim of the concept is to connect and qualify these rural areas in order to strengthen regional identity and cohesion.

Central idea

As the fixed link across the Fehmarnbelt opens up new development prospects on both the Danish and German sides, particularly by improving the transport network, the central idea behind the Bonding Belt concept is to connect the rural regions around Lübeck, Bad Schwartau and Ratekau. While Bonding Mobility promotes sustainable transport systems and improves the quality of life, Bonding Building focuses on innovative housing concepts and the construction of social housing. Bonding Usage creates multifunctional spaces to strengthen the sense of community and promote tourism. An overall spatial tourism concept aims to make rural areas more attractive to visitors and revitalise the region in the long term.

Strategy

The Bonding Belt concept aims to improve mobility structures in the Lübeck, Bad Schwartau and Ratekau area, focusing on sustainable and user-friendly alternatives to motorised private transport. Networked mobility routes and bridges will connect previously separated rural and urban areas and create green spaces for recreation and relaxation. The concept also includes the upgrading and expansion of Points of Interest (POIs) of cultural and historical value. Flexible measures in the areas of mobility, construction and use support sustainable and resource-conserving regional development that takes account of local characteristics.

In-depth study

The rural settlement of Groß Parin, to the north-west of Bad Schwartau, was chosen as a focus area to test the concept. The loss of Groß Parin's historical leisure function for the surrounding area, which has increased in recent years, is to be counteracted by the development of new attractions. Various leisure facilities, destinations and housing projects will be developed in areas 1-5, while area 0 is reserved for the central project of the Bonding Belt concept: Nettværk. Thanks to its good infrastructure, Gross Parin is an ideal destination for excursions, and the Nettværk is intended to make it more attractive for various user groups.

The Nettværk (derived from the Danish Netværk, meaning network) in Groß Parin is a central element of the Bonding Belt concept and is intended to serve as a regional destination. It takes advantage of the strategic location and existing attractions in Groß Parin, such as the Bismarck Column, the Pariner Berg restaurant and the Riesebusch forest. The project consists of a flexible, modular, wooden-look container architecture that can be adapted to local conditions and expanded. By creating spaces for communal uses such as co-working, regional catering, leisure facilities and outdoor activities, Nettværk enhances the attractiveness of the region, promotes social interaction and creates a place for young and old to meet and relax.
