Concept 5
Cycling Tourism

Located in Stubbekøbing, the ferry Ida is a connection to the island of Bogø. The ferry is an attraction and a location that brings tourists together during the summer. Local ferries are typically important for creating harbor life and they are attractions that feel local and authentic. The ferry is located on the Berlin-Copenhagen cycle route, and cycling tourists can make a stop in Stubbekøbing to see the silo and the harbor.

The aim of the study is to explore the local tourism potential of using the local ferry connection. How is the ferry experienced and is it an important function at the harbor? What places do tourists find interesting when they arrive in Stubbekøbing? What do they want to explore and what features and mini attractions are associated with them?

Questions around the local tourism potential in Stubbekøbing and the ferry Ida as an attraction are investigated through the geographical field methods flow analysis, function mapping and urban songlines. Based on the identification of existing potentials, a number of suggestions for development strategies are presented to ensure tourists use the ferry, the harbor, and the fjord

Intro

Tourism can be an essential element for maintaining local services in communities, such as the operation of the Ferry Ida. The Berlin-Copenhagen cycle route creates potential to strengthen cycling tourism in and around Stubbekøbing and thus also to strengthen tourists' use of the ferry connection. The cycle route runs through a scenic landscape with forests, large farms and estates. Along the way, cyclists encounter fine views along the coast. The harbor is an important destination where there are many associations that create a special harbor environment. There are already a number of services for cycling tourists in the form of tourist information, etc.

Tourism potential

To further strengthen the potential of cycling tourism and to encourage tourists to spend more time in the city, it is recommended that existing services are made visible. For example, through better local signage and an overview of accommodation options. At the same time, more accommodation services and small destinations with dining along the route will create a greater tourism experience. The existing port environment could be strengthened through more experiences, such as water activities for children, bathing opportunities, sauna, club life and cultural events.
